Fell In Love With A Girl

Her breath was soft as she slept, and Jessica couldn’t help but admire how calm Amy looked when she was asleep. She couldn’t help the hand that gently curled a lock of the girl’s blonde hair. She bit her lip, her fingers shaking slightly.

Oh. There was that feeling again. She pulled her hand away, staring at her lap.

Amy had fallen asleep watching a movie she had suggested they watch that night. Jessica was certain they had watched it enough times to quote it all from memory but she couldn’t help but agree every time. Why would she ever deny spending time with her? Sure, they were just roommates, but Jessica couldn’t help but feel they were friends as well. Of course, she always cut herself short after that.

She moved a throw blanket from the back of the couch over Amy, slowly standing. She couldn’t hide the smile that slowly spread across her face.

“Rest well,” she whispered before turning off the television, stepping away to head to bed as well before she felt a hand gently tug at the hem of her shirt, looking back at Amy who had woken up slightly. She faltered for a moment before hearing Amy’s quiet words.

“Stay here.”

She couldn’t speak, the tired but pleading eyes of the other girl tugging at her heart strings.

This kind of thing always happened, and Jessica couldn’t quite put her foot down about it. Amy was damn well aware how she felt but it was almost a game to the both of them, skirting around any real confession, hiding behind excuses.

She took a slow breath inwards before gently removing Amy’s fingers from her shirt, flinching at the disappointed look on her face. She was quick to sit back down on the couch next to her, watching with a muted happiness as Amy’s smile returned, her head gently hitting her chest as the woman got comfortable to fall asleep again.

It was almost as if Amy knew just what she was doing in her tired state, Jessica’s breath halthing, turning into a shaky and shallow rhythm of fear, her heart racing in her ribs. She moved her head as far as she could without moving enough to disturb her exhausted roommate.

She couldn’t wake Amy up a second time.

The ringing of the alarm on Amy’s phone quickly woke the both of them up, though Amy was less thrilled to wake up, nuzzling her face into Jessica’s chest, leaving the other awake yet frozen.

Jessica fumbled to turn off the alarm, gently nudging Amy’s shoulder. “Amy, it’s time to get up,” she mumbled to the other, hearing Amy whine in complaint about the idea of waking up before she slowly sat up, Jessica feeling her ability to breath returning as the other’s body weight lifted from her.

“Yeah, I’m up,” she sighed, rubbing her eyes before standing up, stretching before huffing. She then looked behind her and smiled at Jessica. “Did you sleep well?”

“Yeah… Yeah.”

Amy giggled at her reaction before kissing her cheek, leaving Jessica sat there, a flustered mess unable to speak before walking off.

“Glad to hear,” was the last thing Jessica heard out Amy’s mouth before she curled back under the throw blanket, praying whatever just happened wasn’t a dream.
